Alasdair Charnock

Principal Resource Mobilization and Partnerships Officer, African Development Bank (AfDB)

Alasdair is the Principal Resource Mobilization and Partnerships Officer at the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) based in the Southern Africa Regional Office. He has been working in the development sector for over 12 years in positions focused on fundraising, resource mobilization and partnerships. He joined the AfDB in December 2019 having been within the NGO sector for 10 years – the majority of which was with CARE International. At CARE Alasdair held senior positions as the Regional Strategic Partnerships Director in West Africa followed by Director for Global Strategic Resource Mobilization. 

Having been based at country or regional level for 4 years, his experience also includes country office and regional strategic planning including the developing of country office business plans; regional and country office resource mobilization plans; and project design. At the AfDB, Alasdair covers the Bank’s strategic partnership with the European Commission which has a portfolio of almost 1bn EUR. He manages the Bill and Melinda Gates Trust Fund in addition to supporting country offices in Southern Africa with their resource mobilization and partnerships activities. Alasdair holds a master’s degree from the University of Oxford in Latin American Studies. His working life includes living in Mexico, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and South Africa where he is currently based.
