Speaker Bio

Nampaka Nkumbula is a development economist, researcher, and innovation ecosystem builder with extensive experience designing and leading initiatives that connect entrepreneurship, technology, and inclusive economic growth. She currently serves with United Nations Development Programme, where she has played a leading role in advancing Zambia’s innovation agenda through strategic partnerships, experimentation, and ecosystem development.

Nampaka has been instrumental in the implementation of flagship innovation platforms under the timbuktoo initiative in Zambia, including the MineTech Hub, the Mukuba UniPod at Copperbelt University, and the upcoming AI UniPod at University of Zambia. Her work focuses on building pipelines for startups and innovators, strengthening commercialization pathways, and positioning Zambia as a regional hub for technology, entrepreneurship, and future industries.

Prior to this, she worked with Innovations for Poverty Action, where she supported governments and development partners to translate rigorous research and evidence into practical policy and program decisions across Zambia and the region.

She is particularly passionate about the role of innovation in youth employment, industrial transformation, digital inclusion, and sustainable growth. At ITS Kopala, she brings a strong perspective on how Zambia can leverage innovation ecosystems, academia, private sector partnerships, and emerging technologies to drive national competitiveness and African-led development.
